Australia has
a wide climatic range, from tropical in the north to temperate in
the south. Summer is from December to February; Autumn (fall)
from March to May; Winter from June to August; and Spring from September
to November. The coldest regions are in the highlands
and tablelands of Tasmania and the southeastern corner of the mainland.
Jan-Feb is
generally the hottest months, and average annual temperatures vary
from 27 degree Celsius in the far north to 13 degree Celsius in
the far south. Some 70 per cent of the continent is arid.
Extremes of heat and cold occur in the interior.
