Education Services

The Asia-Pacific market is the fastest-growing source market for international students and Singapore is well-positioned to tap on this growth. EDB has engaged both the public and private education sectors in a bid to make Singapore a 'Global Schoolhouse' - a world-class education hub internationally renowned for its intellectual capital and creative energy.

Singapore is already home to a global e-learning institute - Universitas 21 Global - and 11 leading international universities. These are among the best in their respective fields, with strong education and research traditions spanning diverse industries around the world.

INSEAD saw the need to go ahead with its Phase 2 expansion, two years ahead of schedule. The University of Chicago Graduate Business School set up a permanent campus here, the first leading US business school to do so in Asia. Universitas 21 Global - a consortium of 16 well-known universities and Thomson Learning - also picked Singapore to establish its headquarters, and launch its global e-MBA programme.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University was the first Chinese university, and the first from Asia, to establish itself here. Other well-known names include Georgia Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Technical University of Munich, Technical University of Eindhoven, Stanford University and University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.

These institutes will be complemented by other schools in Singapore, public and private. They will cater to students from various age groups and with various interests.

Without a doubt, Singapore is an attractive location for education service providers and also for students. To ensure consistent high quality, the Singapore Quality Class for Private Education Organisations (SQC for PEOs), a trustmark of quality, has been put in place. An accreditation system for private institutions, which can serve as a guide for the quality of the institutions, is also being developed.

With so many initiatives to support the development of education services, and Singapore's reputation for education quality, you know you are in good hands when you become part of the education industry.

There are many investment opportunities available in the following areas:

  • Tertiary education
  • Private commercial and specialty schools
  • Corporate training
  • Preparatory and boarding schools
  • E-learning and supplementary services
