Tourism

Oman is rich in natural assets and cultural heritage and the country provides an attractive and safe destination for tourists. With features such as wildlife, cultural heritage including UNESCO listed forts, an extensive coastline with spectacular sandy beaches, sunny hot climate, variety of water sports and recreation and unique archaeological sites of world significance, Oman is truly the essence of Arabia.

The major tourism strengths of Oman include:

  • The scenic values of the coastal areas such as east of Muscat, Khasab and the west coast of Musandam and the mountains of the Jabal Akdhar.
  • The sparkling beaches east of Muscat and west of Qurum, around the coast of Musandam and to the east of Salalah.
  • Significant natural attractions such as the turtle nesting areas, the marine environment of Musandam, the mountain environment of Jabal Akdhar and Jabal Shams, the picturesque Wadis at Tiwi and Bani Khalid and the expanses of the Sharqia (Wahiba) Sands.
  • The UNESCO listed archaeological sites at Bat, Ubar and Khor Rawri.
  • The high quality urban environments in Muscat, Muttrah, Qurum, Nizwa and Salalah.
  • The significant heritage assets that exist in the Muscat/Muttrah area, the Nizwa/Rustaq areas and
  • several unique villages, e.g. Misfah.
